Well, I've using the card now for a few days and I think I can finally live with it's quirks. The analog video it's capturing is outstanding... unfortunately the program that it comes with, Cyberlink PowerCinema, is a complete rushed, buggy, touchy, slow ass hell, barebone piece of crap. I read the reviews on how bad this program was and I was still suprised!
They call it "user friendly", I call it "too lazy to work on the program". I mean, this thing doesn't even mention the filters that the capture card it comes with, let alone giving you access to adjusting them.
My first goal was to find another program to use the capture card with, but every program I tried either wouldn't work at all or would crash in the middle of capturing. (NeoDVD, Premiere Pro 1.5.1, Nero, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Media Encoder.) Also these prgrams didn't seem to use the onboard MPEG 2 encoder. Nero for example had the CPU at 50% while encoding a movie. PowerCinema has it at about 15%.
Once I actually was able to bare PowerCinema, the videos it's producing from my Laserdiscs is GREAT. I'm backing up my rare Kamen Rider Black japanese LDs and it's much better than my Avermedia card.
I completey recommend this card over the Avermedia. The colors are much more balanced, the picture is cleaner and sharper, and it does gradients better. And since you don't get any options to do adjustments yourself, that's a BIG plus. Also, the audio is better too for some reason. I totally recommend this card to anyone who is looking to put VHS and Laserdisc onto their computer and DVD. Hey you can even watch TV on your computer and use it like a TiVo (which I guess the majority of people buying this card do).
My only hope is that they release an update soon.
