  1. Just got Nero 6.6 and used its DVD functions to put 7 mpegs on one DVD with chapters, etc. but I noticed that the transcoding lowered the image quality and caused some artifacts. These were mpeg1 movies at a bitrate of around 2200 so I was wondering if I should try encoding the VOB files to another format like mpeg2. I still have the VOB files but I will want to still be able to fit 7 episodes(44 minutes each) on a dvd-r. Can someone advise me? I really want to get the best quality image. Thanks.

  2. 7- 44 min clips=not gonna look good! Stick with like an 1.5-2.5 hr. dvd for quality. DVD's arnt magical super hard drives man! Open the .vob files in dvdshrink, I like to not go below 75%, it will cut your movie up also in sections to burn.

  3. perdomot, what's the resolution of the original mpegs? 352x240? 5 hours of 352x240 on a DVD should be no problem.

  4. Resolution was 352 X 240, yes. I think the transcoding Nero does worsens the image quality. Not looking for dvd quality but the mpegs look better before Nero uses them.

  5. Use a different authoring app. One that will take the mpegs you have, and simply author them without re-encoding any video.
DVDLab or TDA will do this.

  6. Is there a way to have Nero use either the VOB files or the DVD2AVI frameserve so as to avoid the transcoding? I just paid $40 for Nero and would prefer avoiding spending more money. I did try TDA but your files have to fit its profiles in order to import them. Thanks.
