I am trying to do voice overs on a separate track in Vegas or Premiere, and every time I record my Audio file I getting popping noise on the peaks, which transfers to my final track. I am using a cheap microphone which came with my system, and recording via mic in on my Audigy 2 ZS sound card using the creative software. Any ideas for help would be appreciated. Are there other good free or inexpensive software to try? Do I need to lower my mic in levels? Do I need a better Mic? If so, please offer suggestions.
I have already done extensive searching in this forum and others, and did not see the answers to my questions.

I'll bet the mic you're using isn't very good, especially if it came as a system accessory.

Depends on how often you plan on doing this. If it is frequent, the Shure SM57 is the standard <$100.00 mic for a variety of recording uses, including vocals. http://www.tweakheadz.com/review_of_the_sm57.htm

Mic placement is important, and you need to move your head to the side if you're using explosive, percussive pronounciation - on the words that POP.

Dynamic Range Compression is an effect that will smooth out the peaks and valleys of your voice-over. You can find the effect built into audacity and other sound apps.

On the Creative cards (at least the one I had some years ago), there is a check box in the software for mic input that allows a 6dB boost. Try it without the boost on.
