I initially had a post complaing about the burn sucess rate of these dics back in Sept 2003.
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=179019&highlight=
Now they are 1 by 1 going bad over time. Discs that I played 6 months ago suddenly skip/freeze at the 3/4 mark. The dics were even stored in the conventional dvd covers that don't allow any light penetration.

Didnt BeAll have a recall and offer to replace the bad batch? I heard that they even did a back up for people. The disks left their factory without being finished or something. the CDfreaks forum has info on it I think.
-
Great, now I gotta go back and check my bealls, I know I've got about 50. Thanks for the heads up.

BeAll has never been great media. This is a common complaint, having bad discs, but it's not a "disappearing" issue. They were always bad.

But yes, back to reality, rapidly increasing errors on DVDs is a reality, even when stored properly, not the boogeyman. -
I asked a friends brother about this. He's a PHD chemist, ok, chemical engineer, and he siad yes, it's possible that the dye is changing phase or something.. okay it was over my head but the gist is if the formulae was off, chemical contamination, or depending if cheap substitue components of the dye were used then it could possibly alter the state over time. Well he did say possible only.

All dyes with change in time, but ask him about the potential timeline of a vacuum enclosed piece. The decay rate is well into the decades. A few months or couple years will have pretty much zero effect.
It is more likely related to players, or the fact that the discs were always bad, just unnoticed.
I don't find most cdfreaks post very valid. So no, not evidence to me of anything but a couple people panicking over something, and prematurely blaming the least likely culprit. Just the way it goes.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
