ripping stratched dvds

Also, if DVD Decrypter cannot extract the disc and ISOBuster cannot extract the whole disc, you can turn on the option of 'ignore read errors' with DVD Decrypter. Obviously this is a last resort, as it will have to skip past any unreadable parts of the movie and could create some garbled portions of video, etc., but it'll at least let you make a copy of the disc.

I think I recall the now defunct 321Studios including an other software
application with their famous DVD X-copy program. It was called
"DVD Rescue" and it was intended to do exactly what you're asking about,
to recover and copy as much data as possible from a damaged disc.

If there are only a few read errors on a DVD, most likely you will barely notice them if you extract with Isobuster and choose "substitute zeros". It's only when you get a large continuous portion of the disc that can't be read that there will be real quality issues. I use this method all the time when the DVD+RWs I burn on my DVD stand-alone recorder have read errors (which is "usually"). I once had a disc with over 120 errors, all around the same spot, and the resulting DVD still worked.

I know there are mixed reviews when using a disc repair systems, however, I've NEVER had a problem with the above product, and while it will not totally remove all or deep scratchs, it should get you to a point where you can rip / view the movie without any problems.

I've only used this on CD's but it does seem to work as advertised. If a CD or DVD is scratched too badly to be helped by SkipDr. it probably won't be worth recovering.

Toothpaste, water and a soft cloth. Works every time for me. It may take more than one application but It does work. The method won't however fix a cracked disk.

I've used it with CDs, DVDs and PS2 games (Basically cds or dvds anyways) and never a problem.

Plus there is no difference between the GameDr. / SkipDr. / DVD Dr. as they are all made by the same company and are the same product under a different name...well maybe the color of it..

And yes, at least in my expirence, if the SkipDr. wont repair it to a point where you can play / rip, then your most likely your gonna have to toss, replace or use a professional service to refine the disc.

DVD rescue would just make a copy of the data you already copied and keep it in a temp file for you. Lame.
