  1. I've seen the posts regarding mencoder not loading up, however, my problem is with mpeg2enc not being installed. I've encountered this same error on two Macs - one G4 desktop and one G4 Powerbook.

    Following directions, I point my browser to:

    http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/MacOS/

    and click on the mpeg2enc link near the bottom of the page. It saves as a text document though, not as a UNIX executable file like mencoder and mplayer.

    So then I tried loading this when ffmpegX asks to do so, it seems to accept, but then fails when trying to do a conversion. I'm primarily interesting in using ffmpegX to transfer from .MOV to .MP4 files for uploading to the PSP.

    Is this not the correct file? I'm assuming that there's an already compiled version of mpeg2enc readily available. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for any help and/or suggestions,

    -Steve

  2. The mpeg2enc file on sourceforge is the correct one if its size is 188524 bytes. You should use "save link on disk..". If it seems a text file it does not matter. You may also install it manually through terminal.app with the following command (put first the file on your desktop):

    sudo cp ~/Desktop/mpeg2enc /Library/Application\ Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc

    (This command will ask to type your OSX password blindly)

  3. Is there a way to keep them installed so you don't have to every time? Or to at least aim the DL path to the same folder each time?
    ::::::|-O-|::::::::|-O-|:::::::
    ::::::::::::<-O->:::::::::::::
    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

  4. If the installer keeps appearing at each lunch, you have either installed an incorrect version of the components, either you run OSX within a non-administrator-type account. Please email me to major4@mac.com with details and I will help you.

  5. Like I said in the other email, I'm the only admin. It could be that I loaded the wrong versions, but they were the ones that were directed to by the program. Is ffmpegX 0.09s the correct version of the program?

  6. Yes. I don't quite understand the source of the problem but it appears to be a permissions problem (as the only test that brings up the installer at startup, is a check on the size of the external components).

  7. I'll run diskcheck then. Maybe the permissions are fouled up.
