  1. Bought NEC- ND-2500A for $90 from Newegg last April. Used it gently and burned no more than 100 discs. Yesterday it stoped working - Power Calibration Error. I tried Maxwell, TDK, and Verbatim medias.

Since there is one year Manufacturer Warranty on this drive according to Newegg, I am wondering how the warranty works. I have contacted Newegg and there is no response yet.

BTW, I applied the 1.0.9 firmware from NEC. I've never used hacked firmware. I don't see 2500A is listed in NEC as a supported drive.

    Thanks.

  2. PCE's are pretty common. Usually you can get around them by writing at a slower speed. Start at 2x & work up from there.

Why don't you contact the manf & ask for another unit?

  3. Thanks for the reply. I tried all speed 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, and ended up 7 coasters.

I thought it's easier to contact Newegg. I could n't find any information from NEC about this drive. It's not listed on their website.

You could try an RMA. You'll find it in your account.

I had 2 things go bad so I RMA'd them and newegg sent
    replacements.

If that doesn't work you can try what the others have suggested.

edit... It might be too long for an exchange, but you never know!

  5. • Retail box items are warranted by the Manufacturer after 30 days from the invoice date. Newegg.com will service our customers for Retail Box items during the first 30 days of purchase. If any manufacturer does not service end users, such as "only overseas" type with no contact or RMA procedures, Newegg.com will honor the warranty listed on our website at the time of purchase.

    • OEM items come with a 1 year warranty, unless otherwise advertised, directly by Newegg.com.

Mine is OEM items. So Newegg will either replace or repair.

    Thanks.

  6. Sounds as if newegg buys big lots of stuff from the manf cheap with no return privs. So they have to honor the guarantee themselves.

Although the law is probably different in the US, manufacturers warranties are just that. In UK the usual procedure is that if something has a 1 year warranty and goes faulty within the first 30 days, it is simply replaced by the supplier. The supplier then returns it to the manufacturer (or importer). If something goes faulty after 30 days but within a year, the supplier returns it to the manufacturer or importer and it is their decision whether they repair it or replace it. The downside is that you are without the item for as long as it takes.

From what you've posted it seems newegg are doing much the same.
