I just shelled out a lot of cash and bought a brand new G4 15" Powerbook with a Matshita UJ-835E DVD Burner.
This thing is suppose to burn at 8X, well I have tried all different types of Ritek 4X/8X/16X, Optidisk 16X, and Memorex 8X (which turns out to be Ritek G05) media and they all only burn at 2X. Just wondering if anyone knows of any media other than Apple media (which is like $2 a Blank DVD) that will burn at 8X??? I have spoke with the folks at supermediastore.com and they say their media will burn at 4X but that sucks if I can't get meida that will burn at 8X. Is there a firmware hack to increase the types of media this thing will burn to? Like I did to my Sony D22A which is now converted to a Lite-On 1633S. Any suggestions????
I have a couple of screenshots (in PDF format) you can check out to see the supported write speeds of the drive, and one showing the write speeds once a 16X DVD is inserted. You can check em out on my website using these links. The first screenshot actually shows some write speeds that the drive cannot write at like 12X and 16X but you get the point.
