My old vhs tapes show video with squiggly lines. Is there any way to correct for this?

The TBC found inside a JVC S-VHS VCR will usually fix this. It may also be as simple as trying another VCR. Or several other VCRs until one does not do it. I see this all the time, especially with copies of copies of copies, typically all SP mode.

Thanks. I assume a S-VHS will play and record to regular vhs tapes...

  4. Mistie,

Conversion of old tapes is very 'hit and miss', I have 3 vcr's and they all play back differently with different flaws.

Sometimes, an old tired standard vhs player can seriously outperform my jvc svhs. Yes you can play and record regular vhs tapes.
I used to be indecisive but now I just cant make my mind up.

I have two tired old standard vhs machines and no luck.

VCRs with TBC is one thing but there are also "universal VCRs" that play all vhs formats, which I almost bought a while back. Too bad you can't get a vcr with both attributes!

Doesn't all formats only mean PAL and NTSC (inc S-VHS)? I haven't done a search or anything on this, but don't most high end VCRs have this function anyway (which will include the JVC TBC machines)?

A TBC VCR is worth it anyway purely for the improved picture quality playback. I have had very good success with tapes that I thought were lost.

    For PAL, I bought a JVC HR-S7965EK.
For NTSC, I have JVC HR-S9800 and SR-V10U

The JVC units play VHS and S-VHS. Maybe that's what you mean.
