Well actually... the template names talk for them selves. PAL is PAL and NTSC is NTSC. The difference of VCD and SVCD you can read about in the "What is" meny to the left (of this site).

you can't really make a VCD with a higher resolution... then you have to go for SVCD (480x576)...

The only thing you can really try to improve is QUALITY and that's based on so many things that it's hard to tell you what to do.

    Thanx/

  4. Use PAL if you are in Europe. The video system in the US is NTSC which runs ar 29.97fps.

    Resolution by type in NTSC
    VCD: 352x240 (Mpeg1)
    XVCD: up to 720x480 (Mpeg1)
    SVCD: 480x480 (Mpeg2)
    XSVCD: up to 720x480 (Mpeg2)
    DVD: 720x480 (Mpeg2)

Quality is achieve with a combination of Resolution and BitRate. Check to see what your DVD Player can play. You should look for player that will play at least SVCD and better if it can play XSVCD.

The Apex 660 is probably the most attractive DVD player out there as far as compatibility and price.

If you are working with Mpeg1 then try XVCD, and XSVCD if you are working with Mpeg2.

Mpeg2 encoding will take much longer because the quality is much better than Mpeg1. But with Mpeg2 the file size is much bigger than Mpeg1.

Everything is a trade off. Hope that help

  6. That depends on the DVD player and TV at the U.S. end..

Whereas virtually all TV's and DVD's you buy in the UK now will playback an NTSC source correctly, the same isn't always true in the U.S. I trade VHS tapes with a friend over there and it was easier for me to buy a multi standards convertor VCR than it was for him to get a VHS/TV comination that would play back PAL.
