  1. How to read benchmarks?

Is longer bars faster encoding time or vice - verca?
(Is mencoder mpeg-4 [AVI] (crop 640x272) fastest way to encode or is it ffmpeg XviD [AVI] ?

    TIA

Longer bars = higher FPS = faster (otherwise an iBook G4 would beat a Dual 1.8 G5 )

  3. And I have allways thought that the ffmpeg is faster than the mencoder...

  4. ffmpeg and mencoder both use libavcodec, which is the actual encoder, and which has been developed by the ffmpeg project. In some cases mencoder is faster at decoding, scaling and threading, which explains the performance difference. I will add more benchmarks soon.
