I bought a wireless optical mouse almost 2-years ago. The mouse was USB but had a USB-to-PS2 adaptor, which I used. That was probably a good decision because my computer at that time only had USB 1.1 and had a USB printer and scanner hooked to it. If fact, if I were printing something and then tired to scan my computer would locked up due to the USB 1.1 bandwidth limitations.

Anyway, about 18-months ago I built myself another computer that has USB 2. I've found that I could print and scan at the same time with no problems. What had never occured to me, until yesterday, was to hooked my mouse up through USB. For the past 18-months I've been using the USB to PS2 adaptor. I don't know why I was thinkin about it but on the way to work it occured to me that I should just hook it via the USB. When I got home I did and it's working great.

I was just wondering if you ever miss something so obvious some period of time and then, out of the blue it occurs to you to do it a different, easier and better way?

I think we get used to doing it a certain way and it works well for us, so why change. In cases such as yours, sometimes it's just a matter that by using the PS2 port, we're not using a USB port, so that can be used by another peripheral device.
I only had 2 USB ports on my old computer, so that was definately a reason why I used the PS2. Now that I have 6 USB ports (4 in back, 2 in front), I have the mouse on a USB port.

yep, i have been using a USB 1.1 cable for my USB 2.0 printer though my computer is USB 2.0. My printer didn't come supplied with a cable so i use my old USB 1.1 cable for the printer that was lying around the house.

Ive been meaning to buy a USB2.0 cable but completely forgot about it. Your post has just reminded me, will get one tomorrow. 8)

There's no difference between a USB 1.1 compliant cable and a USB 2.0 compliant cable. http://www.usb.org/developers/usb20/faq20/

A few months ago I made some changes to my network settings, trying to improve my download speed through my cable modem. I rebooted and now - no connection. I changed the settings back, and still no good.

Spent about 2 hours changing software settings around, then decided to reboot the cable modem and router. When I checked the modem, I noticed the Cat 5 cable was slightly loose. Plugged it back in and everything was suddenly working again. It apparently came loose at the same moment I rebooted. Just a coincidence, because it's in another room. I had just assumed that it was working because it worked a few minutes earlier.

Sometimes, you have to check the basics before making any assumptions.

  5. My story is a little hard to explain, but my computer is on the opposite side of the room as my TV, and the TV jack is about 5 feet away from the TV. Of course I have to run a cable to my computer to do the recording for DVDs. Well, I ran a cable to my computer, then put a splitter on it and ran it back to the TV. Why I didn't just split the cable at the jack I will never know.

I've since re-arraigned the furniture and its a more logical setup now.

Yeah, I overlook the obvious all the time. Stupid sometimes!

One time I couldn't get one of the computers to start.
Apparently it has to be plugged in!

Another problem was a lot less obvious.
I use TY media, burned with a Pioneer, and played in
a Pioneer player. No problems there.

I couldn't figure out why the DVDs kept freezing when I tried
to play them. It kept happening.

Well, in the winter I use a humidifier, and I had it
in front of the TV. The TV dries out the air which makes
    the humidifier keep running.

DVD players don't like a lot of moisture! After I moved the
    humidifier the problem was solved.

    Duh!!!
