I've been doing video capture and manupulation for a while.

I have never focused on this problem before but now, I would like to know how to resolve it.

I have an ATI AIW video card and I capture video from a 15 years old Panasonic camcorder which is not numeric. I use the ATI software to do the capturing and sometimes, I use Vidcap32. Both works pretty well.

My only problem is when I played the avi file, I always see kind of a border at the bottom of the movie which is aways shaky.

I use the Huffyuv 2.1.1 codec with 29,97 fpr parameter.

I would like to know why I always have that skaky line at the bottom of the screen and if there is a way to fix it, remove it.

    Thank you!

  2. I think it maybe Overscan,And you wont see this when watched on a TV.

    Overscan
The area at the edges of a television tube that is covered to hide possible video distortion. Overscan typically covers about 4 or 5 percent of the picture.

  3. Yeah that's normal(top or bottom) when capturing analog. The only way to get rid of it is to reencode and use clip frame(eg TMPGEnc).

  4. I think the ATI software has a mask function you can use to cover it up.

  5. canadateck is correct. These are overscan lines and their presence is quite normal. There is no need to crop the top and bottom lines but if it pleases you to do so, you can do it in TMPGEnc.

Even if you don't crop these lines and encode as is, they will not appear on TV.

On newer TV's (Plasma/TFT/Etc) and PC's it WILL be visible. So if it is possible you should cover it with a black area. Don't crop (and resize), just cover it up.
But if it's already in MPEG then best is to leave it. reencoding will only reduce the quality.
