  1. Hi, guys, I are planning to buy RJ-800 DivX/XviD/MPEG4 DVD player instead of Philip dvp 642 ( I have one already) So for those who had RJ-800, please tell me did RJ-800 have any overscan (play subbed anime )probleme like 642? Is it really can play Xvid files (like Gundam SEED D by AoE) Thanks for your help. I will appreciate it. Again, thanks.

I have encoded some XVID's with AS @ L5 profile 29.97NTSC frame and tried on RJ DVX 800. They play well and the player has full control of the them, fasf forward 8x works as well as fast rewind. I have not tried subtitle and multiple audio yet? But XVID with AC3 audio works.
The latest firmware adds better support for XVID.

  3. Can you try some sort of hard subbed anime or video files? Thanks for help.

    Elaborate more on this.
What do you mean Video files?
Do you mean ISO MPEGs? They play well on this player.

The XVID fastforward and fastrewind speed is 32X not 8X.
I tried multi audio XVIDs but I wasn't able to switch audios.

  5. Well, forget about video files. How about subbed anime. Did you watch, download, or have any hard subbed anime? If so, when you play anime with Rj-800, is there any overscan problem? (the subtitle went down at the bottom of TV, that make the subtitle "cut off" and make you can not read the subtitle) Thank for your help again.

  6. Overscan is not a problem, it's normal. Everything you have ever seen on television has been overscanned. And it's a property of your television, not the DVD player. The real problem is your fan subbed anime. The subs are placed outside the "safe" region for text.

You might be able to find a player that lets you zoom out. My Liteon 2002 has independent zoom in and out in ~10 percent increments for both axis when playing AVI files.

  7. Do you have the description of the prodect? Any web site or link? Where can I buy it in USA beside ebay? Thanks for your help.

  8. I don't think you can get the LiteOn 2001 or 2002 anymore. The DIVX DVD models have been pretty much abandoned by the company. The 2010 might still be available somewhere since they still list it at their site:

    http://www.liteonit.com.tw/DC/english/liteonit.htm

I don't know how similar it is -- the front panel looks the same except for the color. Be aware that the 2002 has firmware issues. It occasionally locks up requiring the unit be unplugged. It doesn't handle GMC well, and it doesn't handle QPEL at all. The zoom feature is indespensable though.

Unfortunately I do not have any anime. I had tried to dub a short clip with a .sub file that I created but the .sub file was not accepted by VirtualDub. One thing I noticed though is that a 16:9 ratio MPEG2 clip that I have put an overlay title with Ulead Video Studio and converted to both DVIX and XVIX is showing a cutoff, not showing the title properly. I tried both on my RJ-800 and Lite-on 2001. Now, I have not tried to zoom and scroll on DIVX but I have been using "zoom and scroll" for DVD's on both players.

It works also on Liteon 2001. One thing that I do not like with my liteon 2001 is that the fastforward and fast rewind does not show "frame by frame" it just jumps to certain point. Also loading for DIVX is slow, on the contrary the loading for XViD is quick.

The RJ-800 also has a different way of zooming. It can zoom out 1/2 and 1/4 of the size of video res.

~1 minute increments. And it sometimes take several seconds to do it. Yeah, I hate that too.
