I've run into a couple of problems making XVCDs using ffmpeg. First, while the elementary streams are fine, mplex will produce a file that is more than twice the size it should be (usually more than 1.4 GB). In addition, it will not be the complete mpeg. If I try to mux it manually using the option under the 'Tools' tab as an XVCD, there are no problems with the resulting mpeg (and it will fit on one cd as was intended). Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to avoid this as currently, I wait until the elementary streams are complete, then I cancel the process and mux manually (a little tedious). Do I need to specify XVCD next to the Mux as... button even when using the Quick Presets?

Problem number two involves audio sync issues. Some files will encode fine with mpeg2enc (although for some reason the video quality is lacking when compared to ffmpeg) but will exhibit all sorts of audio sync issues using the ffmpeg engine (again, this is while making VCDs). If I open these files on my PC with VirtualDub, it will suggest that there is a badly encoded VBR stream. I haven't really played with too many of the settings, but would really rather use ffmpeg as on my G3, it is much quicker. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  2. I will test your first issue. About the second one, the "Decode with Quicktime" option could help with ffmpeg engine. Please note that ffmpeg is still slightly non-compliant for VCD and can't encode real CBR like it should be for a perfect VCD (only mpeg2enc can do this for now).

Is this something that will be fixed in a future version of the ffmpeg engine?

  4. I hope so...

I've recently discovered that my DVD player supports SVCDs, and sadly, it would appear that I also have audio sync issues when creating SVCDs using the ffmpeg engine. As far as you know, does ffmpeg make compliant SVCDs?

  6. They are more compliant than VCDs. Though this should not imply problems in audio sync, as they normally depend on the choice of the encoding framerate.
