I had run windvr in win98 on my other partition, but it was a little buggy, but worked. I thought I would try it with 98SE and see how it would do. I just installed fresh 98SE on another partition and downloaded most of the patches for 98 and directx 9c and installed windvr. It would install, but freezes during launch. It does not get past the first launch screen. I have a leadtek 2000XP Deluxe card. As I said I did get it to work on my other 98 partition. I think there must be something like VM or java that I have to install, but I am just guessing. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  2. And you installed the drivers for the capture card? Right?

I know that we 98ers are becoming a rare breed, but I was hoping some of you could remember back to your childhood and remember the bad old days. I have so many patches and programs on my plain 98 partition (where WinDVR sorta worked) that I have no idea what is missing from the 98 SE partition. The reason I would like to get WinDVR to work is that when I did get it to work on my 98 partition, I could captrue to mpeg2 at full resolution and the result was great. When I use Winfast PVR I have to capture to picvideo and convert to mpeg2. It is time consuming and, believe it or not, the result is not as good. But I could not get WinDVR to behave in a stable manner in plain 98. I was hoping that it would do better with 98SE (which is supposed to be supported), but I can not even get it to launch.
    Thanks, I hope.

Well, I got it to launch. I think it had to do with installing directshow drivers, but I am not sure. But it doesn't seem to capture well. I get lots of dropped frames. I wonder if it is that the 98SE is on a slower HD. But since I was saving to my fastest HD, I would think this shouldn't matter. But perhaps the program caches the capture before saving it. Anybody know. Could I set my windows cache to the faster HD and fix this?

I moved my cache, but it did not help. So I think it might be a codec problem. What codec should I have to capture dvd meg2 with windvr (specific name)? Also, I noticed that I don't have the option to capture to ac3 audio. What codec should be installed for this? To capture, not just play.

It turns out that it was dma. When I installed 98SE, dma is not check by default. After checking, it works fine. I still can not capture the audio in ac3. Don't know why.
