Surely the new Mazda 6 isn't still using the same platform as the old 626/MX6/ Ford Probe?
Not that there is anything wrong with it....

    I love my Probe GT.

We'll be right back after these messages from Binford!

No...they are different now...I was just playing. The Probe is long gone.
The GT was a VERY nice car...but my friend had the 3.0 liter Probe LX (first bodystyle) and that bastard FLEW. I almost bought a white 2nd generation GT but was unimpressed with the performance compared to the older LX V6....that one was awesomely fast.
The GT was quick but had a harsher ride too.

We never got the first gen Probe in the UK, which is a shame. I would have loved a 3.0 Litre

  9. I got to drive one on an obstacle course when they had a show here in Houston. Very nice car. I came close to getting one but decided on something about $15K cheaper

had a mazda 323 6 or 7 years ago. had a zillion kms on it, big hole in the middle of the rad, leaked oil; drove it for 2 years and never put a cent into the engine. so IMO mazda makes a great car

Scions are about the most masculine looking chick cars I've seen in a while. Definitely not going to get nearly as many strange looks as you would driving a Miata or a 300zx..

Stock they are pretty good but they are so easy to get extra KW's out of for very few dollars.

Looking at that picture....now I'm curious. What engine is in the Ford Probe GT in the U.K?
The second generation GT US models had a 2.8(or 2.5---not sure) liter V6....then the standard Probe had a 4 cylinder.

The first Probes were all 4 cylinder at first.
Then came the first gen. GT with a 4 cylinder Turbo.
And while the 4cyl. Turbo "GT" was still available...they snuck in the 3.0 liter LX models (some LX's were still 4 cylinders though...the 3.0 was a little rare)...mostly with automatic transmissions...I never saw a stick in a 3.0 liter Probe.
The 3.0 LX killed the 4cyl. GT's performance times so....out went the turbo model at the generation change...giving all American GT models the 2.8 V6.

I loved the older 5.0 Lincoln LS's - I'm still not sold on the "modular" V8 4.6. My wife HATED the looks of the new 500...I thought it was very nice looking myself but I'm a Yank...the wife is "European" in every way..

GM agreed to buy Fiat...then backed out last week. They owned a majority share until they saw how poorly Fiat did with their newest cars. GM actually had to pay Fiat in order to walk away. GM also had a trivetrain contract with Fiat but I've yet to figure out exactly what GM car uses(or used) a Fiat drivetrain....maybe it was a European GM.

    Edit:
    Found a GM press release

Hech54:, like I said, we only got the second gen from '93 to '98. The 2 versions were a 2.0 4cyl 16V, and the 2.5 V6 24V like mine (They weren't badged GT here).

glockjs: I can't speak for all of europe, but American cars don't really sell well in the UK. We have corners here

I don't think GM are helping either, they are rebadging the cheapo Daewoo cars as Chevrolet!

That's the one....2.5 liter....we had that as well in the second gen GT. Here is a pic of Gen 1 Probe...it was a little hard to tell from the front which engine each car had...dual tips on the muffler and LX on the back was a dead giveaway for the 3.0V6.
    I had a 1985 - 2.8 Liter Toyota Supra....that LX V6 Probe left my old Supra standing at the red light....and he had his A/C on....I didn't...
