i noticed this thread right after i did a fresh install of windows xp pro w/ sp2 intergrated.. i ran the fix, didnt help..
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=235898&highlight=tcp+slowdown&sid=d085b...8403f58b1dae9a
i also tried this fix;
http://home.comcast.net/~optimizexp/Files/XP_SP2_TCP_Slowdown_Fix.zip
still no luck..
i was running windows xp pro w/sp1a & RU1 (w/ all updates).. i was able to download a buttload of torrents at the same time and still browse the internet without it acting like i was on a 2400bps modem.
anytime i download anything via torrent my internet speed is reduced to a crawl and i can only download 2 or 3 torrents at the same time.
i've got another computer still running windows xp pro w/sp1a and it runs just fine.. i'm sharing internet access over a router with it.. and the behaviour started occuring right after the xp sp2 install..
anyone have any suggestions?

uninstall sp2
"If u cant eat it - u dont need it"
"Baby - If i dont hit it, Who will?"
"Why is Abbreviation such a long word"? -
It doesn't seem like this should affect it, but you could try disabling the build in firewall in SP2.

it was disabled as soon as the windows install was complete..
anyone else? -
Sure it's not your ISP? My P2P worked great until a month ago. Now it's incredibly slow. I went to http://www.broadbandreports.com/whois and the URL it lists for me is not the same as it used to be. It's also not the same as listed in my network connections.
I am apparently being routed through a different server. You might check this. All other internet functions work fine. Just slow P2P, no matter what version of OS I try.
Or am I just being paranoid? -
yep, i'm sure.
its not that the torrent speeds are slow, they're about half what i used to be able to get (especially when downloading multiple).
but when i download on another pc that still has win xp pro sp1a, it downloads just fine..
i'm thinking of just going back. i cant download any via torrent and browse the internet at reasonable speeds (no, its not my upload speed causing it). -
okay. i know this isnt all in my head. i created a backup of my current install (xp sp2) w/ acronis true image, then did a clean install of xp sp1a..
i then created an image of xp w/ sp1a.. i was able to restore the images in about 5 minutes..
speeds on a torrent with a few hundred seeders and very few leechers were like night and day.. w/ sp2 i was only able to get about 150-160k/sec, net browsing speeds were at a crawl.. w/ sp1a speeds were around 260-315k/sec, and i was able to browse the net just fine..
there is definetly something going on here. i've tried the patches, i've researched this.. i cant figure it out.. i'm about 5 minutes away from going back to sp1a :P
