'Deep Throat' returning to theaters
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- "Deep Throat," the infamous 1972 adult film that led to a government crackdown on pornography, is being re-released in theaters as a new generation of lawmakers wages a renewed assault on smut, trade paper Daily Variety reported in its Tuesday edition.
The release of the Linda Lovelace opus, which was banned at the time in 23 states, coincides with the premiere of the documentary "Inside Deep Throat," which hits theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston on Friday.
The original film, which was made in six days for $25,000 and has allegedly grossed more than $600 million, will not be ready until at least February 18, the paper said. Las Vegas-based Arrow Prods., which owns the rights to the mob-funded "Deep Throat," started striking 10 prints on Monday, it added.
Five of the prints will be edited to garner an "R" rating, which allows admission to children aged under 17 if accompanied by an adult.
The documentary, co-produced by Brian Grazer, the Oscar-winning filmmaker of "A Beautiful Mind," is rated NC-17, which denies admission to anyone aged 17 and under.
It shows how "Deep Throat" popularized a form of sexual pleasure previously considered taboo. But the Nixon administration was not amused, sending in the FBI to close down screenings, and taking legal action against the film's director, Jerry Damiano, and stars.
--->>Meanwhile, a bill that would increase fines for smutty broadcasts to $500,000 per incident from $32,500 is wending its way through Congress with bipartisan support, inspired in part by Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl last year.

My College UCSD, used to show it in the gym once a year. Stupid film once you read about it.
Linda wrote a couple of books on it. They are great reading. She said there was a gun on the table in case she didn't want to do what they asked. Her books are called OUT OF BONDAGE. -

Actually she wrote two books. This flick is basically a document of her assault. Not a pretty life.

Some quotes
"Then Frank Sinatra got ahold of a print somehow (cough, cough) and screened it in his home for party guests. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew saw it at one of Frank's parties. Sammy Davis, Jr. too. In fact, Sammy got so turned on that later he and his wife got together for a four-way with Linda and her husband."
......
"Nobody in the adult film business bought her act. They were appalled. She had, in their minds, repudiated her past only as a ploy to gain the acceptance of the millions of Americans who hadn't seen her movies. In fact, the porn industry uses the term "Linda Syndrome" to refer to former porn stars who disavow their careers, like Traci Lords."
.......
Al Goldstein, was particularly poignant about her death. But, you will have to read that one yourself. -
Although it was revolutionary in 1972, I have a strong feeling the only thing grossed in a 2005 re-release would be a whole new generation grossed out from watching porn stars the age of their grandparents and great grandparents that resemble members of the Manson Family
Don't waste your time!
There were plenty of artsy (or was the term chic ) porn flicks in the '70s, that were actual films with a storyline with better style and better looking actors.
Deep Throat paved the way but it's no different than looking at an old silent film for great effects compared to modern technology.
A documentary about it for educational and historic value is one thing, but don't expect anything more from this, especially to be turned on by it - you might need to bring a bag along in case you get sick watching it -
oh yea-- it was a really bad film -- no doubt

The movie is scary, no doubt. Scary looking women, scary looking guys, etc.
It was paid for by the mob, and distributed by the mob - then again, back then porn was ... y'know ... not legitimate.
The issue with Linda Lovelace isn't "was she abused/forced", it's "how consistent is her story". It's clear that she was abused by her manager-cum-husband. But all accounts show that she ENJOYED working on the movie, at least in part because it gave her a measure of independence from him. It also made her famous, which gave her the courage to leave him.
However, she was a dirty girl before she ever met him. He just... encouraged her. With his fists.
It is HIGHLY doubtful that she was forced to do the movie - at least not in the sense that any of the people on the set forced her. If anyone, it was her abusive husband. In fact, her story kept getting more and more grandiose. While she was with him, it was "he taught me to do all this great stuff". Then once she left him it was "he made me do all that kinky stuff". Once she found religion, it was "he forced me to do degrading dirty sexual things". Once she was ACCEPTED by the mainstream religious right it quickly changed to "everyone involved with the movie raped me and held me at gunpoint and brought their friends and pets to participate". -
