  1. Hi folks,
I have a very tiny computers and only have space for 1 HDD. Since I use Firwire and it's a P4 3.4 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM I don't need speed, I need space.
It has to be S-ATA but I haven't built a computer by hand sine PIO 4 was FAAAAST so what is the best € to GB (I am based in Europe so Froogle etc are no use to me) out there these days?
    Thanks

They mostly review hard drives, and have a large searchable database to compare everything from temps to noise to speed.

If price is no object, Hitachi has a 500GB SATAII 3.0Gb/s. Actual throughput is probably only slightly higher than SATA but you get speed and capacity. You won't need to upgrade for quite some time.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

If money doesnt matter why not get a SCSI drive, 15000RPM, plus its own error checking and defragging.
EDIT sorry I thought title said FASTEST.

From what I hear, the SATA 2 drives (even with the higher theoretical max thouroughput) are as of right now just as fast as their equal speed (RPM&cache-wise) SATA 1 bretheren... which in turn makes them as fast as the old PATA drives. No use in having fat busses if those morons making the HDDs won't give us faster rotational speeds
Your base? Well, they belong to me now...

I believe they also make a PATA version of it, but even if they don't it's still the largest single consumer HDD on the market right now.

  13. Thanks guys. Yes it was NOT a typo: I want SIZE not speed.
I have done the SCSI thing but that would require another controller.
Price is less of an issue but if I am not getting a similar GB/€ ratio I may wait a little.
    Thanks for your input.
