  1. I want to transfer some old VHS tapes to VCD. Is there a program that allows me to do this by connecting my VCR to my DV camcorder (it has video and audio inputs)and capture the video thru the firewire card ( I don't have a TV analog capture card) directly to an mpeg-1 file which is VCD compliant?

you can use Pinnacle express to capture from DV 1394 card and burn it directly as an VCD,SVCD or DVD.

  3. Thanks PatMar but I believe Pinnacle Express captures video from either a camcorder OR a VCR and I think the captured format is an .avi file (huge). I think I remember seeing on this forum someone capturing directly to mpeg format which of course is much smaller and avoids going through the tedious encoding. Is anyone familiar with a program called PowerVCR? I think that is maybe what I want.

  4. Powervcr is a good program for going straight to VCD but going from VHS(which is already poor quality) without encoding...will make the quality even worse...I have a Athlon XP 1600 and when I use powervcr to go direct to vcd the quality is not even comparible for when I cap to avi then encode....so yes you can cap directly to VCD but quality will affect things.

    Just my two cents. =p

You guys may have answered this a millions times, but searching for the answer has escaped me.. "I want to record my personal library of VHS movies to VCD, but don't know where to start. I have a DVD player that plays multiple formats, including VCD. I need to know what I need to get to do these recordings. If it would be easier to Email me than posting it, I am OJBonneySr@aol.com. Any help will be appreciated.
