  3. I wanted to back up my miniDV footage and decided to store it on dvd. I figured a can store more on a double layer dvd so I went and bought a dvd writer with double layer capabilities. The next day, I went out to look for a double layer dvd to write on, but alas, there weren't any. And I dont think they will ever appear at all because Blue Ray and HD-DVD is coming out soon. I just wasted my money on non-practical technology.

No. BDROM, HDDVD. No players for those.
Stupid to think it'll "replace" DVD in months.

Give it time DVD-R DL will be here soon most likely, and should have long life.

  5. You could say that DVD should replace CD-Rs, but I still use them. I think your investment is safe.
