  1. recently used svcd to dvd to burn a dvd from bin cue files d/l'd from a ng. the resulting movie plays on one of my dvd players, but doesn't on one (restricted by region code). thought reghion code would be simply a function of the burner in this case. am i misunderstanding sonething? thanks in advance,

  2. Unless you intentionally set region code with an authoring program it should be 0(all regions).Play the DVD on your PC and see if you get a region error,if not I think the problem is the format(-/+) or media.

i dont think there is an authoring program thats set a region code. As moviegeek says, most likely to be media issue.

  4. plays okay on the PC and my APex. Just guess this Sony DVP-NS501P is picky. tried burning it on Verbatiom & HP blanks, still says "cannot play."

Are you actually converting it to dvd spec's or just burning the SVCD to a dvd ?
Because that model sony listed does NOT play SVCD's
And just because you burn a video to a dvdr does not make it a "dvd" capable of playing on any standalone player unless it supports the format you put on the dvd.......

Sony's are very picky with DVD+R,most will only play with DVD-ROM booktype.Apex will play anything including a piece of bologna.

  8. what's DVD-ROM Booktype? Love the Apex, just picked up the Sony for nothin' at Costco...

  9. DVD-ROM booktype is available with certain SL DVD+R writers(eg Lite-On,BenQ,NuTech) and it tricks the player into thinking it's a pressed DVD.
All DL writers set DVD+R to DVD-ROM booktype when using DL media.
