  1. I am trying to make a VCD using VCDEasy 1.05 integrated with CDRDAO 1.1.5

All seemed to go well including the burning of the CD-R but I can't "play" the resulting disk. That disk, as read in Windows explorer [Win2000 Pro] has folders as follows:

    CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, Segment, VCD

with various files in each. I included just one very short .mpg file in the process. What do I need to do?

    Thank you.

  2. You need a VCD player to play the disc. WinDVD and PowerDVD will play VCDs, or you just just hunt down the .dat file in one of those subfolders and open it with Media player.

  3. Take a look at the "Play" section to the left. You did everything correctly. When you say you can't play it do you mean in your stand alone DVD player, on your PC, etc?

if you are using mediaplayer 7 or higher then you can also goto the MPEGAV folder and play the DAT file with media player.

But when you are using an SVCD standard then you need an Mpeg2 player or DVD player software.

  5. Thanks for the replies. PowerDVD wouldn't play it, saying that there was something wrong with the disk. My DVD movie player attached to the TV started it up indicating it as a VCD 1.1 instead of 2.0, but the video was patches of a broken up picture in the upper 20% of the TV screen. I used TMPGEnc to convert an AVI to MPG. The resulting MPG file played nicely in Windows media player. But media player will not play the DAT file.

My DVD player is an Apex 703 which claims to play VCD 1.1 and 2.0 plus SVCD. Again, your help is appreciated.

  6. It sounds like your Mpeg file is not VCD compliant.

When you set up tmpgenc to do the convertion, did you load the VCD template?

  8. Assuming you used TMPGenc to encode your MPEG.

    1) Run TMPGenc
    2) Click on the load button (in bottom right is settings, load, and save). Choose the NTSC_VCD template (normally in folder ../tempgenc/templates)
    3) Load source
    4) Encode

  9. Thanks again. I found the VCD template and it worked with one catch. The VCD cut off the video before the end. The mpg file plays fine, so the encoding did fine. The VCD now plays full screen on the TV or in PowerDVD, but it stops a bit early. Is that normal? Do I need some dead time at the end.

In any case, I've made much progress with your help
