  1. Hi Everybody,

I can't seem to make this player region free. I've tried it according to the way that it is stated on the http://www.vcdhelp.com hacks page. This does not work for me! And believe me, I'm doing it the correct way.

Does anybody have a solution for me or do I need to have a chip installed??

  2. That 'hack' didn't work for me either - I think its BS.

Unfortunately, I guess your only options are getting it chipped or picking up a player that can be hacked...

Those hacks for the Pioneer drives are for modded drives only. You need to install a modified chip (EPROM) in order to make those "remote hacks" work.

  4. I couldn't get it to work either. I can get the screen, but pushing the numbers does nothing, since the number on the screen cannot be highlighted. This code hack has been repeated in several places around the net, but nowhere do they mention the need for modded drives. I guess they forgot this part.

I have one obscure DVD that I got in Japan that has region 2 coding, and my player is region 1. It's so annoying that they do that for DVDs that will not even be releasd in region 1. I'd buy it here if I could.

  5. Actually, if you read the other Pioneer hacks, most of them say to hit condition memory FIRST, then input the number. This doesn't work either. However, most of them also say you need a special key, perhaps something like what the previous poster referred to, in order to work.
