dvd burning with a cd burner question

hey everyone i just had a couple of questions.
can you burn a dvd with just a regular cd burner.
if so does anyone know know what software i could use, i have been searching forever trying to figure this out.
i downloaded 1 click dvd ripper but when i go to the wizard it says open ifo or vod files and the file i downloaded from a friend is an avi file.
im just alittle confused on what to do and was hoping someone could help me out.
any help would be so appreciated

You have so much reading to do,.. it's not funny.
I'll try to answer some of your questions....I think you can make a vcd (not a DVD) of the avi with your cd burner,... and you might have to covert the avi first. Check the faq's and do lots of searches.
