    4. XDVD
Introduction of the XDVD (eXtended DVD) format.
A new format called XDVD has been developed based on DVD-Video standard, to allow longer hours. Though the length of GOP(Group of Pictures) is limited to 18 frames in the DVD-Video standard, concerning the XDVD format, one GOP can contain up to 60 frames! High-quality and high-compression can be realized in the same time. For instance, it is possible with that format to put 10 hours of video in a 4.7 GB DVD !!!

So when you put 60 frames into a GOP instead of 18, what do you lose?
Anybody have any more technical, but easy to understand info on XDVD?

BTW - I am just finishing up compressing a 6 hr tape using xdvd 740x480 29fps. The encoding time has took 26 HRs so far! Don't fret though, when I encoded using a 1 1/2 hr movie it only took about 2 hrs.

I will report back results of the 6 hr mpeg compression.

    thanks, zep

DVD spec compliance. It's out of spec, but works in 99% of players. (I don't really know if it's 99% or not, but it works in all of mine.)
BTW, I use KDVD all the time, same concept.
