  1. I want to upgrade my P2-350 to a faster processor mainly for encoding video. I have 320 mb. of pc-100 ram. If I go to say and AMD processor and new mainboard, will this ram work or do I need to get 133?
Let's hear some suggestions on the way to go on this.
I'm tired of 12-25 hrs. converting with TMPGe.
    Thanks.

  2. i have an amd 900 with 256megs of pc100 ram. i don't have any problems but it still takes me a long time to encode a 1.5hr movie(depending on my specs for the encode). some people on here have over 1500 megs so i'm sure that their encodes fly by in no time.......

anything over 256mb does not make that big a difference, I went from 256 to 512 of ddr and endode time decreased maybe 5%.

  5. Well, if you want to decrease your encoding time, and spend the least amount of money I would upgrade....

    YOUR CAPTURE CARD!

Get a card that does real time MPG capture.
Unless you are real video purist, some of the new ones will be just fine.

That way you dont have to convert.

I would reccomend the PV256t, or the INstant DVD usb.

    there you go...

  6. What everyone has said heretofore is pretty accurate. Raw processing power is by far the biggest factor in conversion speed.

  7. If u upgrade to AMD XP1600+ with PC100 RAM u can get it running to max of 1050Mhz instead of 1400.(that would be waste of money)

Go for 1.2Ghz AMD or buy some PC133 RAM.

I upg. my PC for the same purpose (DVD ripping)
    I bought XP1600+ and cheap PC266 Pcchips Mainboard(810LMR).
    Very happy.
