  1. Ok obviously if you are reading this now then you already know my question, but let me give a little history as to why I want to know what you can tell me:
Right just got myself a very nice JVC TH-SW8 DVD Digital cinema sytem, and am very pleased with it so far, plays vcd, svcd, dvd jpeg etc, but it also claims to play mpeg4 files......................so tried xvid, divx and wmv
all to no avail ( all burned as a standard iso in nero V6.3 ). So back to the manual and there it states it will only play mp4 with a .asf file extension with stats that follow as this: MPEG4 SP, Maximum bitrate 384 kbps with an audio codec of G.726 ( audio codec of this spec is absolutly essential so it says ), Maximum picture size played is to be no bigger than 352x288 pixel resolution (CIF) , Sooooo how does one create such a file , every prog I've tried that states it will produce just such a file is actually giving me .wmv and as I've seen on google the two seem to be the same but my player ain't havin anything to do with it. Any HELP very much appreciated on this, I know that .asf exists cause i remember downloading a few files with that very extension way way back in the early years. And finaly the reason for all of this...... I'm just curious as to the picture Q I can get from this file, a very simple reason but very difficult realise. Thanks for listening and if you have anything to say Im listening.
Eh!.......don't know why it's doing that, it worked perfectly well on my system !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why bother? That max resolution is PAL VCD so why not just use...............VCD?

Better still WHSmith where doing avi enabled DVD players last month (got one for the mother-in-law for christmas) for £29.99 and they play divx/xvids...maybe you can hook up one to the JVC to get the cinema sound?...it will save a load of hassle if your avi's are divx/xvid format.

  3. monzie your right of course about the hassle and thanks for the heads up on the avi player, but I've been working on this for a while encoding ,burning and so on, so now I'm left with an unanswered Question.............and that just drives me crazy ( reminds me about my vcd learning days ) . Curiosity just gets the better of me.

How I read the blurb for this player..

...your player supports MPEG4 but maybe its just audio (AAC)?

    Or

it supports mpeg4 audio and video from a digital camera (still camera not DV) that takes mini-movies? Something like this (note the file format extensions):

  5. Many thanks monzie, I never gave Digital Cameras a thought but now I'm thinking what a bloody useless feature to put in the player, it already supports jpeg...........oh well never mind. Now I can sleep at night
