  1. I spend several frustrating days trying to figure why 2 of my xvids wont play. GSPOT did not identify any qpel/gmc as it did with other xvids that wouldnt play.

SO i decided to upgrade to GSPOT 2.52 Beta 1 and it picked up qpel and gmc on those 2 movies that the previous versions failed to. So anyone having this kind of issue, please do the same as it might save you time.

One question, does GMC play ok with firmware 1109? I also have a movie with qpel and GMC code on it.

  2. QPel and GMC will never work with the DVP642. They are limitations of the decoder chip's hardware.

You need to recode the movies without QPel and GMC.

  4. from what I understand GMC has been added by 1109.
but QPEL should never be implemented.

GMC will work only with DivX movies only, not with Xvid.

  6. GMC is still not fully supported even with 1109, and it would be very wise to encode all your MPEG4 videos without it.

Samson, you can use Virtual Dub or Nandub to recode your video, I prefer Virtual Dub, Nandub has some bugs.

  7. Samson,
Jefferson Ryan, a brazilian, wrote in portuguese a small tutorial about how to recode an avi file using Virtualdub in order to remove QPEL and or GMC.

The tutorial is pretty basic and is still subject to revision by Jefferson, however I translated it into english and I will post it tomorrow when I get onto a normal computer.

Note in it, Jefferson says he uses "fast recompress" for video encoding because it's faster, however I used "normal" recompress as it seemed to work better (I got a 900mb file from a 700mb source using fast recompreess).

Jefferson's Ryan's review of the DVP642 in portuguese.

difference between "fast recompress" an normal "recompress" is that normal unlocks you additional functions (color depth)

unless you use the function the "DUB time" will not change.....
