  1. Hi,

I have a standalone player that I use to play out of standard SVCD's on. First I make an 'out of standard' VCD using Win AVI. I then burn this as an 'out of standard' SVCD with Nero. So far this has worked fine but I have just bought a portable Philips Pet700. This player supports SVCD and will play one or two discs so must therefore support out of standard svcd. The problem is though that I can't seem to make any more that will play even though the player reads the disc and says its a svcd and gives the file length. When I push play, all I get is the player dvd background.

Is there any way I can unlock teh machine to play the out of standard svcds? I have tried all types of different media and speeds......... Does anyone else share this problem??

One file did work on it and was 90 min and encoded using Win Mpg but this just produced green lines on the standalone player. Arrrgh! no good!

Any help would be amazing and save me from losing more hair and spending loads on cd's...

    cheers

"Out of standard" is a pretty broad term and doesn't really define the type of video that you are working with. If it is only a little out then that might be OK, but the further out then the greater the chance that it will not play. Just because it can play one or two of them does not mean it will play all of them as you have found.

As for "unlocking" it to play non-standard video, well I would say that you have very little chance of that. When you go out of standard then you are in no-man's land and it will be strictly trial and error on your part to find out what plays and what will not.

  3. Hi,

So whats the best solution ? Can I get 80/90 mins on an 80 min cdr that plays as an SVCD??? Do I not have to burn as out of standard?

I would not recommend trying for more than 60 mins on an SVCD, and that's only if you use 2-pass VBR.

Other than that you could try DVD, burners are getting cheap.
