  1. Anyone done it before? Whats it like?

I'm thinking about doing it with some friends, probably go tandem because its cheaper and less training required. I'm scared that I'll get up in the plane and won't be able to jump out although once I'm out I'll be fine.

I've always wanted to go, but cannot find any friends to go with me...sober anyway.

  3. I'd never jump out of a plane unless it was certain we couldn't land safely. Utter insanity.

Thats the same situation I am in. The ones that can afford it don't want to go and the ones that can't afford it are all for it.

I don't want to go with any female friends in case I chicken out either.

I've always bragged to my wife that "hey I would do that in a heart beat!".

Then on my borthday last year, she surprised me with a tandem jump! In front of the whoel family. I'm freaknig out but not trying to show it. I got in the plane, flew up to 10,000 feet with the door open teh whole way. VERY COOL! I'm not afraid of heights at all so I loved that part.

Then when we were ready, he flung me out over the edge. I'm strapped to him, so he on the edge and I'm hanging out theplane. I never thought I could do it, but I yelled to heim, let's go! Tired of waiting!

It was awesome. He let me do all teh controls once we settled in and taught me the ropes as we went down.

    You can do it!!

    LS

PS I have a tape of the whole thing, I should capture and post it for you to see.

  7. I'm trying to decide whats the best option, here's the list:

    8,000ft
    An introductory skydive with 15 to 20 sec Freefall - $225 p/p

    10,000ft
    Bring on the Freefall – 35 – 40 sec Freefall - $245 p/p

    12,000ft
Yahoo – definitely enough time to check out those views! - $265 p/p

    14,000ft
Ultimate challenge – over one minute in Freefall – it’ll blow you away!- $285 p/p

The other option is $399 but you jump out of a helicopter instead of an aeroplane and its over Surfers Paradise and the beach instead of in the mountains.

I always wanted to. In school they had a skydiving club just as I had started there. I decided to join ASAP 8) As soon as I was enrolled, the club was discontinued ....probably because of insurance reasons :P

I did static line so I could go by myself from the beginning. Did it from 3000ft. and you have a full size reserve chute if you have any problems. I went while I was in college with my roomate and several of our hall-brothers. We got a nice group rate of $160 per person, which included the training and 1 jump. Each additional jump would be $85, or $65 if we had a group of 12 or more people. I only jumped the one time. I missed the second time they all went because I was on a class tour in Mexico. DAMMIT!! All we saw were crappy vine covered ruins.

Honestly, you don't feel like you're falling. It feels more like a giant fan is blowing at you at a great speed. When the cute opens, you're sitting in a glorius swing that you can turn in any direction. The instructor taught us the military landing, but they told me to flare a slight bit early and I was moving so slowly I just walked it in and the chute collapsed behind me. The instructor said it looked professional. however, he told the guy after me to flare early to and he landed in a position that looked like he was sitting. He probably would have had a nice bruise had he not landed in the only large puddle in the middle of the corn field.

I'd do it. I think the only options for noobs are static line and tandem. I don't think anyone will let you freefall on your own the first time.

Anybody got a shot of Russ kicking his mother-in-law out of the plane with a swiss-cheese looking chute?

You can at the place I'm looking at however you've got to do a few hours of training first and an instructor jumps besides you.

Tandem only takes 15 minutes of training.

I'm guessing that consists of 'Don't freak out and start flailing wildly, and don't get tangled in the chute.' :P

Pac you are young, you will heal fast! Three grand for six days of jumping? Sounds Good. You should be looking for the small clubs rather than full blown commercial schools. A partner at work goes for two or three jumps every Saturday weather permitting. Depending where you go or how they train you may have to do a couple of tandems to check out or a couple of hop-n-pops (static line) Around here I don't think it is as high as $100
Oh and don't even worry about a reserve, if you ain't cut away free and clear at 1000 feet you ain't going to want to slow down before you hit the ground
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Very true. We had a reserve, but jumping from 3000 feet and not noticing wether the first canopy is open or tangled by the time you hit 2000, you're and idiot if you haven't cleared it and pulled the reserve by 1800-1500 feet. Even 1200 would either be rough or just risking a heavy strain or possible bone break in the legs.

So about the same with the exchange rates.

It looks like I might be going Sunday with my cousins which should be good. We're going to a different place though on the north coast where you land on the beach which should be awesome.

OK, now that would be awesome. Imagine the view you are going to have... I live 37 miles from Des Moines, Iowa. When I was floating down I could look over and see the runway from DSM International. That was cool.

It's amazing how quiet the ride down is. They had a string they pull to fold up the smaller inner parachute to keep it from flapping and it become so QUIET. He then asked if I like roller coaster rides and I was dumb enough to say yes. I didn't know you could get horizontol with a parachute!!

Have a blast and take footage!
