  1. Hi all. Let me thank all that respond becuase i'm really in a jam and have a deadline to meet.

    This is the situation:

I have a wedding video that i recorded on a Sony DV Camcorder. I just bought a top of the line computer to edit it. the specs on the puter are as follows. 3.8ghz pentium processor with 4gb of memory(yes 4gb). My question is this. If i capture the video directly from the camcorder...will it drop frames?

my other soulution to not droping frames was this. I have a stand alone dvd recorder. i have burned the DV to DVD-R. I've ripped the DVD on my puter using SmartRipper(worked fine). Then i wanted to edit the .vob files. I was using Vegas 5 for editing. The problem i come across is that when i import the vob files to Vegas. I get no sound. I know it has sound becuase i played to ripped files on my puter using powerdvd and it works just fine. I read some of the guides and they suggested just using tmpgenc for editing but i need to cut parts out...extend some parts...and and music and voice overs to it.

    please help....thank you

    ohhh boy ...

put your computer specs in your profile - this will then appear on every post you make

DV camera to computer is just a file transfer - so if you use a firewire cable, you shouldn't have any issues with dropped frames whatsoever given the computer you've got, unless you got a dinosaur of a hard drive in it ( < 5400RPM).

... and BTW, if you're going to profit in monetary terms from free help received here, IMO it's only fair to donate some of that back

As for editing, in order to do what you want to do, IMO you'd be better off transferring via a firewire cable so that you get DV-AVI files on your computer. These should be relatively easy to edit using any editing software.

Might be an idea to learn what you need to do and how to do it before making it into a business venture too
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Thank you all for responding. the reason i thought it would drop frames is becuase i did another video on my dad's laptop and it dropped frames like crazy. I just did the first tape on my new puter(hehe) and it worked like a charm...Thank you all again!!!

That has sadly become a thought amongst consumers these days: "if they can do it, so can I!" Sorry, no. Skill, education and experience are three required ingredients that cannot be bought at Best Buy.

I have to totally agree. You can't buy hours and hours of reading. Trying different software, going through the frustrations of what does and does not work and expect to buy that in a click of a mouse. "Deadline", no such thing in life, however lack of planning, there's plenty of that created by individuals. Good luck with your project! Oh, by the way I spent over 36 hours working on the last wedding DVD I did for a long time friend. The end result was worth every minute I put into it. Worth more than the $1,500.00 they paid for a professional photographer. I accepted not a dime. What I learned during producing the DVD was my paycheck.

  10. Just to clear up any misunderstanding....i'm not getting paid for this...i volunteered to do this for my brother. He just wanted it by a certain time so he could give copies to the rest of the family. He promised them a copy and i was trying to keep his word....no hard feelings though...

Well thanks for clearing that up. I would however in the future, first tell your brother you have never done this sort of DVD before and secondly, not post or use the term "deadline" which in today's world, usually refers to a buisness or professional venture. Have you gotten anywhere with your audio issue yet?
