The DVD that just came out is the Mini Series (about 3 hours total really) that leads upto the first episode. It aired back in 2003 and pesonally I thought it was really good.

The new BSG is scifi but its very character and drama driven. The fact that its in deed science fiction sometimes takes backseat to the story itself, which in that way reminds me of a good scifi novel.

If you've not seen the mini I'm sure scifi will air it again soon... or go buy the DVD, it good.

Will you be lost? A little but if you catch the very begining it will catch you up somewhat. EVERY episode begins with a review of what you REALLY need to know/remember to get that episode.

The show is a little complicated that way, EVERY episode so far is important. No fluff or filler episodes like a Star Trek series would have. Ok, to be honest maybe you could call some of them that but there is so much character development in them that they become important.

Short version: You dont HAVE to go buy the DVD to watch the show but I really really really suggest it. Or go rent it.

Edit: also the girl that plays Starbuck is hot.

IF you really lazy you can go read the short version of what happens in the mini on the scifi.com site.

WARNING SPOILERS LINK IF YOU'VE NOT SEEN THE MINI SERIES.

    ?
This started back in october, just watched episode eleven a few minutes ago......

Good so far though, although IMO "the fleet" is very american. perhaps this is a deliberate comment on the real world, perhaps biased writers, maybe coincidence. been good though, i like what they did with the cylon ships.

This is complicated. Its an american show paid for mostly by Scifi channel and their owner (NBC IIRC) but SkyOne offered to chip into budget quite sinifigantly if they could have first air rights.

So as extremely rare as this is poeple in the UK with Skyone are getting to see it FIRST for season one. In the USA it doesn't start until Friday night (Jan 14th)

The show is really good and the people behind it are very afraid because its episodes have been downloaded in HUGE HUGH HUGE numbers. The fear is that so many people download it that none will actually watch it.

Its cool that you guys got it first, but honestly if it hurts their numbers, the very ones they depend on to get the Ok for a second season then its their own damned fault.

Meanwhile I've already got my PVR setup to catch each one since I work Friday nights.

Either way the show is awesome and I can't suggest it enough.

Yeah D/L has been big, but nowhere near Atlantis and SG1 have been so far. same thing though, they're airing in canada/uk first for some reason.

I'll bet the stargate franchise makes a shedload from DVD sales though...

If you saying the BSG downloading isn't as big as those shows you should check again. Someonce quoted over 4000 poeple downloading from suprnova and it was an episode that had been out for 4 days already.

Also current rumor is the Scifi's owner (NBC I think) likes the show so much they are thinking of airing it in their off season to boost ratings in that normally slow time.

I don't remember exactly but I wouldn't sweat it. Boxey hasn't come up alot in the new series. I think he was there mostly to tip a hat to the old one. That and because well he made the original show suck. I mean they TOOK HIM DOWN TO PLANETS WITH THEM!.

    Hello,

Hey flaystus - thanks for turning an ANTI-SCI FI thread into a PRO SCI FI THREAD!

By the way - watched the miniseries on NBC over the weekend (the very first one done). It looked horrible. Nothing like the original.

It was kinda like Wing Commander actually - all war.

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I like alot of scifi. SG-1 and Atlantis are both great, I can't believe that SG-1 has a 9th season next year! Its really great because that will put it as the longest running scifi show ever, only tied with X-Files. I also like all Star Trek, Farscape, and Sliders. Flaystus, if you like Battlestar Galactica you might really enjoy Babylon 5. The whole 5 seasons is one big story, and it too like Battlestar isn't all return everything to normal at the end of the episode. In B5 actions have consequences, and that plays across during the entire series. Plus IMHO it has great characters, Londo, G'Kar Garibaldi, Sheridan, ect ect. Anyway its worth a try.

I was a huge B5 fan, I just never got to see anything that happened after it went to cable. (didn't have it back then) It was a good show, B5 however had lots of filler episodes between the main story line. Much like the original Battlestar you can cut it down to some key episodes watch it and enjoy fully. The new Battlestar I don't suggest missing a single one.

How far did you get to watch it? I've seen seasons 1,2,4, and 5. I have yet to see season 3 though. I bought the dvds so I could finish watching it after scifi took it off. I would highly recommend that you watch the parts that you haven't seen yet, especially the latter seasons. Season 4 is full of action and suspense, and a bunch of great storylines. Have you seen Sleeping In Light, the last episode? It is possibly (IMHO) one of the best hours of tv out there, ever. There are many many reviews of it and how great it is, Season 5 is almost worth getting just for that. Anyway glad to hear your a fellow fan!

Tough question. It twas long ago. I think it was at least 1 and 2. Possibly 3. I know the shadow war had been resolved. I also remember they ended it with this weird recap of the future episode.

Back on the subject of Battlestar Galatica. Did anybody watch it tonight or am I just tooting it horn for nothing?
