  2. Yes there is a BIG difference. To give you an idea look at the following:

    My laptop:

    PIII 866 - 256Meg Ram
Encoding on this machine alone for a 2 hour movie is 12 hours!

    My Desktop:

    P4 2.0Ghz - 3Gig Ram - 1.7Tb HD Space
The same 2 hour movie encoded on this machine is 4 hours!

The movie that was encoded was - Die Hard - There is a very big difference in encoding and DVD2AVI between the two machines. If you plan on buying a P4 2.0 - It will be worth every penny!

I had a P3-800 with 256MB and a 90 min movie took me between 6-7 hours. Now, my P4 1500 takes me around 3 hours.

Big differece if you ask me. And my P4 is SDRAM based, not RAMBUS.

  4. I've Got A P4 1700 + 768 Ram.... and for a DIVX average 2 hour film it takes about 4 hours.. A friend of mine has the XP1800+ AMD chip and his takes about 20 mins longer.
