DVD-RW vs DVD+RW

Is this statement true;

A DVD-RW can have multiple recordings over a period of time and will not erase previous recordings as long as the DVD has sufficient space or room while A DVD+RW reformats automatically each time you record, therefore erasing or writing reformating over the previous recording.
