Hi, I've been using an ATI TV VE PCI card with ATI MMC to capture TV, and then burning with TMPGencA, until I bought a new card, a Sabrent SBT-TVFM. The Sabrent card came with Honestech TVR software to record video with. I now have two problems:

1). ATI MMC now refuses to record, either in a timer or when manually started. In addition, when I open the program once it will have audio with a black screen, but if I close it and open it again it will have both audio and video.

2). Honestech TVR will not let me make custom capture settings - I can only use their presets, and their presets don't work (their DVD setting encodes audio wrong, and their mpeg-2 setting does not include headers).

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Did you remove all the drivers for ATI VE?
I wouldn't use the TVR software it's weak and doesn't offer a lot of features. Can I ask you why did you buy this CAP card, it's more for BTWDM, but I see it has a Philips tuner.

Well, you might have noticed that both of the cards are cheap, cheap, cards, and that's because I can't justify putting real money into this hobby of mine. I went with the Sabrent because (a) my ATI VE has been going downhill, and the video quality for two of the channels I watch the most is horrific (b) the Sabrent does have some extra goodies which the ATI VE didn't (c) the Sabrent was cheap.

But thanks for the idea, I will try it out when I get back from work today.

Well I had the Pinnacle PCTV Pro dbx-stereo uses the BTPCI WDM drivers, and I thought like you, still do!

Nobody wants to spend a lot of money, there are ways to do things on the cheap. When the WinTV PVR-150 came out and drop to $69 (back at $99) I quickly got it and installed it.

What a big difference! There are a lot on here with some strange setup and the CAP card just doesn't work for them in the audio. I think it's the chipset is made differenlty than the older WinTV PVR-250 which has been placed by PVR-150

Well good luck with the Sabrent CAP WDM is just like the Pinnacle but you have a better tuner on your model than the Pinnacle does.

Oh you might want to try these freeware drivers to help improve our recording and playback.

Well I removed DAO & all of the ATI TV VE drivers manually, and now ATI MMC will have audio/video reliably, but ATI MMC will still not record, and I think that this is because ATI MMC detected the new card, and under settings says it is not supported for capture. So I'm going to search for some good tuner/capture programs...

Unless someone knows a way to get honestech TVR to allow more customizing in the capture settings...

I'm guessing this is a non-THEATRE chip card.
