I got a email from COMPUSA advertising Seagate hard drives 10% off. I took a look at COMPUSA's website to see how much the Seagates cost. I noticed that most of their hard drives now come with only a 1 year warranty, the SATA hds come with the 5 year warranty. I guess they're following in the footsteps of Maxtor and WD regarding warranties on their drives.

They JUST went to 5yr within the past 6mos. I think it's just that the older drives are packaged with a 1yr warranty. BUT, if I'm not mistaken, if you purchase a driver after a certain date, it comes with 5yrs regardless of what the paperwork says.

The ones in the stores the past few months, and I'm not even sure if I saw these anywhere but CompUSA, had a "Now With 5 Year Warranty." sticker stuck to the outside of the shrinkwrap, as though they sent them stickers and said slap 'em on.

I don't recall any at BB, CC, or OMax or Depot.

Who knows? Even the ones I saw were the larger ones, my 200 and the 160s and 250s.

The only reason to go back would be if they are having so many returned within months that they'd get killed if they keep it at 5 years.

    Cheers,

    George

Edit: Should have clicked the link before I wrote the above.
