I just ripped a DVD-R that was burned with a crappy BTC burner.

The rip only took FIVE MINUTES.

I think my 3520 sold it's soul to the devil to rip at these speeds.

It reached 16x's speed and it was a crappy BTC DVD-R 8x's burn.

That was my first rip with the 3520. I am using stock Firmware

I want to see what it does with a Single layer pressed DVD.

Probably because Riplock is only enabled for pressed DVD-ROMs. I also think I read someplace that it might have to do with CSS... but do not quote me on that.

DVD drives will not limit the rip speed of recordable media (although hardware/firmware limitations on older drives might only allow for 10-12x). You will most likely need a hacked firmware to achieve faster rip speeds with pressed dvds, since every recent nec drive has riplock enabled (with the exception of a few rebagged drives).

FWIW my LiteOn drives (XJMS-166S & SOHO-167T) both reach between 15X and 15.5X for DVD-Rs with the firmwares I've put on them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I plan on changing the firmware.

But I am going to practice first on Lite On 451s I am going to try the firmware that changes it to a 832.

If I do that successfully I will get the ahcker firmware for the 3520 that allows faster ripping for pressed DVD's
