  1. Hello,

I'm backing up DVDs on my Pioneer DVR-108, ripping & burning using DVD Decrypter 3.5.2, compressing with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15.

Comparing several backups with originals, it seems like the audio dialogue, speaking etc, is lower, while the music & sound effects are at normal levels.

I didn't think the audio was compressed but was left the same. Is this true?

Has anyone else found this? Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gage

    Edit:
another thought, I just have a stereo tv, do you think it is the type of sound that is selected by default? 5.1 instead of 2.1?

If played in stereo, the dialogue in the 5.1 track will sound softer then in the 2.0 track. 5.1 audio is mastered with a much broader dynamic range, and unless you listen to it in 5.1, the speech will be too low and the explosions and such will be too loud. You can fix this with dialogue normalization which is offered by some DVD players.

I think you are just hearing the difference between a 2.0 track and a 5.1 track downmixed to 2.0.
