Are you using the WDM drivers? From what I've heard those are the only ones that work on win2000 or winXP
-
I have a WinTV PVR on Win2k (same core as XP), and I can tell you for a fact that somehow Hauppage got VFW drivers to install and run (NOT USING THE VFW WRAPPER !!!). Make sure you download the Win2k driver (I think it's v 3.11), then load the WinTV Drivers and the WINTV 2k App. (the exact files and order are given on the site). Also make sure to use the primary app that's put in the start menu group for the WinTV to use DIB, fixes some ugly artifacts (change this to whatever stops you getting them). I'd suggest using the hardware reset app, then dowloading the newest drivers and install from scratch. Remember that if you install a Quickcam after you install your WinTV board you'll have to re-install the board.

I have the WinTv PVR, upgrade from win98 SE. And of coarse it stopped working when i upgraded to xp. Got the updated drivers, still didnt work. Next i tried a clean install of xp still didnt work.
When i say it doesnt work, i mean that the screen no longer displays full size, and i cant get into to capture in virtual dub into Divx. Am completely frustrated, hopeing for new drivers soon. -
S**T is maybe going too far, but there are problems under WinXP and that is even though the drivers have been certified by Microsoft. This can make you wonder how much trust you wanna lie on those certified drivers ?!?
My problem under WinXP, is that when using MovieMaker (updated), I can only view channel 4 and there is no sound.
...they have a small program on the CD called AudioSelect.exe which can help you turn the sound back on, but it's really such a hassle. -

The full screen problem is fixed when you use the Primary app, the cap in Vdub will work, but you have to change to the right Capture device manually... It bugged me for a little but I got it working.
Remember you can also tweak the drivers by going to the device manager and opening up Legacy Video Capture Devices, then getting to the Properties page for the Hauppage board. Play with some settings here if things still aren't working.
Also do a search in Yahoo for SHS and WinTVPVR, I can't remember the actuall address but it's a great forum for users of this board. PM my if you have more questions getting it working (it took me 2 months but I got it in the end). -
Attn: WinTV-PVR you shouldn't be using VfW drivers on WinXP I just wait for real WDM MPEG drivers to come out but you can use thw Plain jana WDM drivers that are now out you will not be able to do any MPEG recording other then hold off on using WinXP.
If recently upgraded to XP I don't fell sorry for one bit also you start with clean install being upgrade can and will make a BIGGER MESS out thing then it should also you use the rigth for WinXP no not thoses VfW drivers
Sorry NealCit and Shabubu there are using mix VfW wrapper
It gose like this Win2000 dose support VfW but not WinXP being MS pull all Legacy support from WinXP
The WinTV-PVR drivers are mix bag of drivers VfW and WDM.

Yeah, the card's got issues. But it can be convinced to work.
For now I'm bypassing the onboard tuner and mixer. I've got the Svideo from my VCR to the WinTV, and the audio from the VCR going direct to my sound card. If I'd known about this I would have bought the WinTV-GO instead of the WinTV-DBX/FM. My VCRs tuner is cleaner anyway.
Other options are:
1. Use a WDM capture app that has a built in workaround
2. Use the VFW driver like Shabubu suggested
3. Use the BTWincap driver from sourceforge.net
I also found that XP likes to use it's driver even though you install the updated one from Hauppauge. I had to extract the driver files and install them manually to get XP to take them. I discovered this when checking the dates on the drivers files in use.
The drivers on their ftp site are more current than the ones on their web site, so try the ones from their FTP.

NealCit go to my web site click on the How to Use button then WinTV2000 link you find what your looking there.
http://shstvpvr.150m.com/
Now as for virtualdub into divx
Thing you need VirtualDub the Latest and DivX 3.11 alpha and TMPGEnc the Latest.
You can use the very latest DivX codec.
0) Install DivX 3.11 alpha
1) Now that you have VirtualDub-1_4_7.zip unzip to ?:\Program Files\VirtualDub\.
2) Make a short cut for VirtualDub.exe any where you went, Like the Desktop is good place.
3) Run AuxSetup.exe click on Install handler and exit.
4) Start your VCR or what ever your using.
5) Start VirtualDub.
6) Click on File> Capture AVI.
7) Click on File> Set capture file or F2 save it where ever you went.
8) Click on Video> look at very end menu "Hauppauge Win/TV Video Capture Driver" should be check if not then check it you should now see a signal if not see next step.
9) Click on Video> Video Source> Setup to what you went (Note: You may reset back to your old setting late on).
10) Click on Audio> Compression> Click on (Name) down arrow on change to CD Quality OK.
11) Click on Video> click on Preview.
12) Click on Video> Set custom format> click on 352x240 (NTSC) or 353x288 (PAL)> Click on "YUY2 YUV 4:2:2 interleaved" OK.
13) Click on Video> Compression> Click on DivXMPEG-4 Low-Motion> Click on Configure then change the data rate to 1100min or 1152max OK> OK.
14) This good time to think about weather not or you need any cropping if so then Click on Video> Cropping> Enable then go back to Video> Cropping> Set bounds (DO NOT try to resize 16x9 video to 4x3 video).
15) Note: this more of option if you need it there some off wall artifact in you clips
Click on Video> click on (Filters...)> click on Add (deinterlace) then OK, A menu box will pop open (Blend fields together "best"is check then OK.
Click Add scroll down in tell you see (sharpen) then OK, A slide bar will pop open slide it to about 10 to 15 you need play around with this on each capture "This help cut down on the Blur".
And there ton other plug-in filters features in VirtualDub.
You want lean more about those filters use Google type in "VirtualDub Filter" or "VirtualDub Filters"
16) Click on Capture> Setting> Frame rate: type in, 25 (PAL) or 29.97 (NTSC).
Check: Wait for OK to capture (You really don't need this one but some people like).
Uncheck: About on left mouse button.
Check: Lock video steam to audio.
OK.
17) This good time to think about weather or not you need to Enable multisegment capture.
If your running WindowsNT/2000/XP running all drives using NTFS you don't need to Enable multisegment capture, How ever if your running a one has is fat16 or fat32 drive then need turn it on.
If you running Windows95/95A/95B/95C/98/98SE/ME it good idea to Enable multisegment capture, Click on Capture> Capture drives> Try not to create AVI files smaller then: Use 50.
Try not to create AVI files larger then: Set the size you want (Fat 16bit drive 1900MB max) or (Fat 32bit drive 3900MB max).
Click on Add spill drive> Then click on the Path type in (Drive letter): you use a folder if you went to.
I never use this so I do know much about it, I think after you have edit it and convert it to VCD format you need joint them as one file again I don't know for sure you better ask at the VCDhelp forum.
18) Click on Capture> Preferences> This good time think about weather not you want save the setting.
Default capture driver> Click on down arrow change to> Hauppauge Win/TV Video Capture Driver.
Check all Save current> capture setting as default, audio format as default, video format as default, and Save video compression setting (Internal mode Only).
You need to mess with Per-driver setting.
19) Must not be running any Antivirus software turn it off, Now for fun part Click on Capture> Capture video or Hit the Key F6 now go for a LONG Coffee Break.
(DON'T forget to use ESC Key on the Keyboard to stop the recording).
If don't like this editor there one other free AVI editor out there but VirtualDub this it the best one for capturing anyway take a look at Aist MovieXone Then all you need is TMPGEnc to convert it to VCD format.
How setup TMPGEnc
1) Now that you have TMPGEnc-0.11.28.112.zip unzip to ?:\Program Files\TMPGEnc\.
2) Make a short cut for TMPGEnc.exe any where you went, Like the Desktop is good place.
3) Start TMPGEnc.
4) Click on Load ?:\Program Files\TMPGEnc\Template\ this what your looking for "VideoCD (NTSC).mcf" or "VideoCD (PAL).mcf" click on it and click on Open.
5) Click on Browse and then ?:\CAPTURE.AVI.
6) Click on Start.
