Use Snapz to capture the video in quicktime format. Otherwise you can't convert files of that crappy format on a Mac.

You may be successful with ffmpegX (tgpo may be wrong).

    Important settings:
    1/ select DVD ffmpeg preset
2/ set framerate to PAL or NTSC
3/ audio tab: enable "invert mapping"
4/ options tab: disable "decode with quicktime"
5/ tools tab: uncheck "DVD authoring"
    6/ encode

Consult your ffmpegX manual for further options and settings.

Mileage may vary as WMV is just a container for different codecs.

    Cheers,

one caveat: if it has been encoded with WM9,
then there's nothing you can do, as no
codecs exist on the mac side to handle it.
and ffmpegx will let you know if it encounters
    wmv's encoded thusly.

    @terryj:

People are too lazy to do a search

This hint came from "major" who is the author of ffmpegX (yes I paid and got his support).

The important detail here is that sound will not be out of synch as the ffmpeg encoder is used (not mpeg2enc).

By the way, I needed the same conversion to get the short movie clips "ILovePicNic" and "ILoveSky" on DVD (and SVCD).

I hope I'm wrong, but I've tried many, many, many wmv files and never had one work.

    master tgpo,
I've had some luck with some (Usenet) wmv files,
but most I've gotten through P2P sharing (recently)
have all been WM9 encoded, which causes ffmpegx to
    choke.

  8. I just do a video capture of it with Snapz Pro and then add in the sound.
