PWiddy,
I'm new to making vcd and svcd. But have made several great successes. Here's what I have to offer...check if your original avi has audio? If no, then I can't help ya! If there is, de-mux the audio from the original avi and mux the converted XVCD with the original audio using TMPGEnc. Although my method requires a little more steps to take but its worst it. By encoding video and audio as one, there is a very slight off sync if you look closely. Good Luck, Jordan -
the original has audio...it will play fine on the computer...i do not understand what you mean by mux....i am also new to this
thanks for your time.

PWiddy,
Sorry for my short hands. De-mux mean de-multiplex and mux means multiplex. Use the simple mux and de-mux in the TMPGEnc. Ok, here we go again...de-mux the AUDIO only from the original AVI and also demux the VIDEO only from the XVCD (the one you made). Then go to "Simple Multiplex" in TMPGEnc. and mux the video (which is from the xvcd that you made) and the audio (which is from the original avi) together as one file and then burn it. *Before burning, try it on your computer first (see if there is audio and is it off-sync). Then, burn it onto a CD-RW for testing your DVD player. If everything goes fine, burn it to a CD-R for your collection. Jordan
PS. Do not use the XVCD audio file that you made because as you said, there is no sound. Which also means that the file is either not encoded properly or has been corrupted. -
Simply put, why don't u try another converter? I use VCDcutter for cropping and merging mpg files but it also has an option to convert avi -> mpg that I never tried but I assume it works.
