I just got a DVD recorder and i want to transfer my favorite VHS to DVD. Of course these VHS are mine and they are for my own personal enjoyment i do not intend to sell them or anything. But everytime i try to record a movie like Star Wars or any other movie the DVD recorder says i can't. I know it's some protection thing but i wanted to know if i can bypass that! Is there a way?

It's just macrovision.
Do a search on macrovision copy protection. They used to sell macrovision strippers at best buy, but not any more.
"Digital Video Stabalizers" is what they were called.
How is that recorder?
Does the editing feature work on DVD-R media?
Since I use VCD mainly for recording TV shows I'm really considering getting on of those and switching to DVD.
