  1. Hello all,
I have a dvd image file on my hdd which dvd decrypter and dvd shrink tell me is region free with no RCE protection. However, when I follow my usual burning method, my Sony dvd player tells me that the disc cannot be played "due to area limitations". The unit plays other region free discs on the same media without a problem. I've tried patching the region to only region 1, but I get the same error. If anyone has any advice or explinations, it would be greatly appreciated.

    ~Thanks!

I should start keeping score 8)
I see this same question on here at least once a week

Sony dvd player + "Playback prohibited due to area limitations" = Bet any amount of money it's pal

You can check acouple of way's if it is PAL or NTSC, one is by the framerate with AVIcodec

  4. When using DVDShrink use the Region free settings under Backup > DVD Region.
When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.

If i'm not mistaken, you already made it region free (All Region) and then tried to make it just region 1 ? both times not playing.

Just what i said in my OP. "PAL"

And even when you check just region 1 for a backup it still is not just region 1

AVIcodec will tell you in about 2 seconds and it's free, if it's 25fps it's pal.

  6. It was PAL, so sorry for the repetitive post. I patched the IFO's and got it to play, although video is a little shaky. Anyways, thanks for the help guys!
