  1. I've had this unit for a while, I think it was made in July 2004 (the "newer" models, i believe?)

Anyway, shadows (dark areas) that are supposed to be black appear greenish during playback of recorded shows. I did a search on the forum and found one other person who had this problem, but it was posted in the middle of another topic and nobody responded to it.

Anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it?

  3. It only does it in dark areas. There's also an annoying issue of pixelation during motion, even on the highest quality. Is it just me?

  4. Kingnog,

This also tends to happen on the ILO recorders. Try playing the DVD back in another player and see if the greenish shading is still there. I have found, with the ILO HD04, that it is an issue with playback, not recording. The DVD will probably be ok when viewed on another player. Most of these recorders are not suited for primary playback machines.

As far as the pixelation, high motion video will cause this. I don't think the mpeg encoder in the LiteOn/ILO is quite good enough to keep that from happening.

  5. Yes, I realized that the greenish tint only appears on the recorder itself (I tested it on my computer and another standalone after posting). This player could use some color correction options. The strange thing is that it only does it to dvd's recorded by it. "Professional" dvd-9's and my home-made (computer burned) dvd's play fine

  6. Catch is its in the Encode side if there. The only thing I have seen on the non HD is black levels are a dark gray and its overly bright.

That is with SVideo/Stereo audio input and not that dumb tunner.

  7. What? I don't understand. Are you saying it's a hardware problem, during the encoding? Then why would it play back ok on the standalone

Exactly. It's elimated as a hardware problem. The player just not as good with it's own discs. Go figure. Yours, at least. I've never seen this. I'd gripe if I did.

  9. Bah, I was hoping it was something that could be fixed. I've only had this unit for a couple weeks, so it's still return-able. The ease of use and features are very nice, maybe it's just defective...If I find it to be unbearable, do you have any suggestions for a comparable recorder for the same price range (I bought it for $150)?

I've tried TWO different LVW-5005s and both had problems with picture quality.

First, yes I noticed the greenish picture using the component outputs. It might be more noticable on my set as it is properly calibrated to 6500K through the whole range.

Second (and most critical) the recorder "lightens" the shadows excessively. Both units did this. The first (July 04 build) one also "clipped" the highlights as well.

The first one was exchanged for one built in November 04. I took that one back and purchased a Sony GX300. I'm a much happy camper now!

  11. How much did you pay for the lieton and the sony? I paid 150 for the liteon and I wanted (and still want, since i can return it) something for the same price that doesnt have problems.

I'll admit that the Sony cost more. I bought the LiteOn because it was "bisexual" (+/-). I wasn't aware of the Sony at the time.

I have seen the Sony on the Internet for about $330. I paid close to that (from someone I have a business association with).
