I have a standalone DVD recorder that I use to capture my video tapes on to DVD. It places chapter stops that I cannot change or edit. I want to be able to then i,port the video from that DVD to my PC so I can edit the chapters I want and make much nicer menus and transitions. The tols I have used so far - Ulead DVD factoory, Video studio, all import the video, but breaks the video into the chapters so I have lots of small files instead of one large file to re-edit. What Can I use to do get the entire video without it being broken up? Thanks.

DVD Decrypter is the answer. Use IFO mode/no file splitting, and you'll get one lare VOB. DVD Decrypter can also de-mux the audio and video streams. If you want to re-mux them to an MPEG2 file, use TMPGEnc. If the VOB files are already on your hard drive, use Rejig to de-mux them. (This is what I do when working with Ulead.)
FYI: Only MF3 or above will work with the AC3 audio that is most likely on your disc(s). Also, MF3 is kind of buggy, even with the latest patches.
Good luck! -
Thanks. I will try it tonight.
Bless you sir. Its perfect! Extracted one movie from one DVD I made, one large file, no chapter breaks. Was able to import the .VOB diectly into DVD Lab for editing.
I bought a stand alone recorder so i didn't tie up my PC capturing all my tapes. Now I can record all my tapes to DVD, and then re-import them in when I want to do make a much better DVD structure with DVD lab. I use 2 DVD's per tape, but it's a small price to pay to make the DVD's the way I want, not just dumped to DVD from tape. -
I do the same thing, except I use an RW disc for the first recording, and an R disc for the final product. When I'm completely done, I re-format the RW, and use it again.
Glad I could help. -
Well, I want to capture them all first on DVD. This way I can have a DVD-R to watch in the meantime. I can get good DVD-R's cheap now so the cost is not an issue. And not all of them I would bother re-doing. So in the long run if I spent .80 instead of a .40 by using 2 DVD-R's, thats fine.
But ones I KNOW right away I will edit in the PC, I use the -RW discs.
