  1. Before I spend some real money on PAL DVD discs from Amazon.UK I am hoping that someone has some real experience playing PAL discs on a Philips 642. Philips is no help and according to what I have read it should work as long as I am not using wide screen. I want to get some BBC TV shows that are nowhere else. I will be viewing on a US NTSC TV.

    Region 2 UK PAL and PAL SVCDs work on my 27" and 13" NTSC Sony TVs.

    PS PAL Anamorphic widescreen plays perfectly with the correct aspect ratio on those sets as well...

  5. Well like the post above says, it does say Pal DVD's, I also tried a CDVD it played it but without sound.

    You should be able to hear sound by pressing the audio button a couple times until it cycles through the audio codecs. I had to learn this from a poster on this board since it's not in the user manual. I had problems playing mpegs burned onto DVD+RWs until I found out this trick...
