Hi, OK this might be a stupid question, but i just got a DVD burner for xmas, and it came with MyDVD, but i am confused as to how to go ahead and start making dvds.
I have several video files, which i have used tmgenc to convert to MPG, but i did thus using the wizard, and for a vcd, not dvd. I want to put them onto the dvd with a menu and everything, but when i tried using mydvd, i was like 4000 mb over caacity, i think i am missing someting!!!
Help please

Start by opening the window and throwing MyDVD as far as you can. It's a PITA app they usually bundle with hardware because nobody in their right mind would actually go out and buy it intentionally
Then ...start reading the guides here. It is not fair to the other members to have to walk you through every step when the information is already in the guides, and easy to understand.
And, besides, part of the agreement when you joined was to do some basic research before posting.
First read the "What Is" section and select "DVD". Then, when you're at least partly familiar with that DVD is, start reading here:

ok, well thanks for the tip with MyDVD.
As far as the rest of your post, well i do apologize for upsetting you!! I had actually spent some considerable time checking through the forum and the guides on the website, as i know how to do as i have been using VCDhelp for various things for years now!!! I could not find anything regarding my issues, i could find things about converting avis and stuff like that but i dont have an avi file do i.
Well i would like to say thanks for the help, but........

Don't mind Capmaster, he's just a little testy b/c it's the onset of the silly season. A lot of people who just got DVD burners in their stockings will be coming on board in the next little while.

Before you ask, there's also two freeware tools that noone with a DVD burner of any description should be without. These being DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter. Very handy, they are.

another great free tool is ffmpeggui, i always change my audio to ac3 with it, because i've found it has great compatibility with standalone dvd players. other great free programs you should get are---gspot(for info on your video file---virtualdub(too many uses to list)----divfix(for repairing avi files)This is just a start as you get more experience you'll find all kind of great programs(mostly free)that you'll need

IMO Capmaster wasn't upset, he was just giving you some friendly advice and a helping hand
Another guide you might like to keep in your favorites is http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm . Even though it's called "AVI2DVD", it can be used for almost any source file that you wish to convert to DVD. Plenty of pictures, lots of great tips and IMO very easy to follow. Worth a readIf in doubt, Google it. -

Do not jump on the newbies. Just point them in the right direction. Everybody starts sometime. This is after all, videoHELP.com.
@MexicoMatt
You are missing lots. What source? How encoded? Desired final product? Computer hardware? Etc. Details. Details. Details.
And yes, as Cap said, use that MyDVD install disc as a drink coaster. Totally worthless POS.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I didn't mean to give you the impression that I was upset Matt. I wasn't.
I'm trying to help you take advantage of all the guides members here have spent hours putting together for the commonly-asked questions.
But most noobs haven't even looked through those, or done a forum search before posting the often-heard "now what do I do?".
It's all there in the guides. Take the time to read it and you'll be better off for having taken the time.
And ZippyP. is right - I'm bracing myself for the flood of post-Christmas noobs who just got a burner as a gift and now want to immediately master it. It doesn't work that way -
OK Hi Everyone, sorry for the time in the response, but with cxmas and everything. Here is the deal... OK fine Cap you were not upset, point taken and apologie offered, although i do have to say to (especially to Hech54, or whatever your name is???) I have been using this site for a while now, from everything from hacking dvd players, to making VERY good VCDs and SVCDs, which i appreciate to you maybe is nothing special, siomple stuff, which by the wya for me it is too now, well the way i am used to doing it anyway. But yes i am a newbie when it comes to the DVD scene, and i am just looking for guide lines thats all, maybe i just havnt found the right guide but the point is i did look!!
Anyway, a new year is almost here and i dont want to start by upsetting anyone, Cap thank you, and i appreciate it is a learning curve, as is everything with computers, so thanks to everyone that posted, especially ZippyP, Happy New Year to everyone!!
