  2. Him and Sam Waterson are what made L & O a hit in my opinion.

He was in a lot of movies, did guest slots on many TV shows and even voice for cartoons and video games....so you probably stumbled onto something he did somewhere

    maybe you've seen -

The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
    F/X
    Brewster's Millions
    Delirious

and better known as Jennifer Grey's dad in Dirty Dancing

I remember seeing a Biography show on him and he was most proud of his role in the not so widely seen film, Prince of the City.

    Very talented character actor.

    That is sad news

Totally agree. I didn't really like the early characters on that show. The seasons when Sam Waterson started are so much better. Benjamin Bratt is also much better on that show than Chris Noth.

I liked the old and the new characters on L & O - but Jerry Orbach was my favorite character on the show. Very natural actor. I'm very sad to hear that he has passed away.

In fact the only thing I don't like about the show is the recent tradition of hiring bimbos for the role of Sam Waterson's sidekick. Can't remember her name - the one killed in the road accident with Briscoe? - was the last really good one. I suppose the one after her was pretty good as well. But the most recent two... irritating!
